It’s a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realise what has changed is you - F. Scott Fitzgerald

A lot of things can be associated with the term above. When I said the word “home”, where does it bring you to? Or what does it remind you of? Home tends to be something that always lingers in our mind as that last stop. You may wander everywhere, but when you’re tired you go home. You go to work everyday, after conquering all the bustle in the city out there you go home. You travel as far as you can go, as long as you can leave, when all the fun and curiosity has been fulfilled, still you’re thinking about going home.

Home is comfortable. Home is where you can let go of your tiredness. Home is where you can release all the disguise, the mask, the cover, that you’ve put for the world out there to protect yourself. Home is wherever you want to settle or whoever you want to settle with. Home is a place, home is a person. Home is your final stop.

Or so I thought.

One time I went to see my bhai (Bengali for brother), I was having a quarter-life crisis. I don't know where to go, I don't want to stay in my country, but I don't wanna leave my family or I’m afraid that if I leave my country I would lose the guy that I was seeing at that time. Then my bhai said, “Your hometown is not your home. He is not your home. Your family is not your home.” It took me a while to accept that, I mean.. what?

Then he said,

“You make your own home. If you can’t feel like at home with yourself, how would you be able to let someone else in?”

Home comes from within ourselves. We build our own home. Home is where we can feel satisfied with ourselves, where we find that inner peacefulness, where we can stay and rest independently, accept ourselves unconditionally, and trust ourselves that home is not a significant place or location, nor a significant person where unconsciously or not we're dependent to, but it’s that spot within our soul that we can relax at the end of the day, regardless everything.

We carry our homes within us, which enables us to fly - John Cage

Once you reach that level of awareness, you would find it amazing how we as a human being can undertake anything as long as there is a willingness. When you start taking care of yourself, you start feeling better, you tend to attract better, and you bring out the best from you. Once you trust yourself as your own home, you can invite someone else in, might be just as a guest for some period of time, might be as a permanent resident in your heart. Neither way, their duration of stay won't bother you cause either they stay or leave, you are staying in your own comfortable home, in your own space, your own time being.

Happiness is homemade. If you found that home inside your soul, happiness will tagged along.

Stay present. Let’s search together.
